Ijen Crater is the biggest crater lake in Java. It is 200 meters deep and lies between a natural dams of deeply etched rock. The lake contains roughly 36 million cubic meters of steaming acid water, shrouded in a smelling swirling sulphur cloud. You can find colorful stones in different shapes and sizes inside the crater, making it known as a beautiful garden of stone.
Expect unique sightings of sulphur miners ascending and descending the crater. You’ll see men picking up kilograms of yellow stones, setting them in baskets, before climbing down the mountain slope to sell his load.
